A weekend of cocktails in Copenhagen

Follow Elle’s hunt for the perfect drink

Nights out in Copenhagen are amongst my favourite as Copenhagen have some amazing bars. I’ve travelled to the Danish capital countless times in the last few years; and decided to go back last weekend as I was really craving a No.4 from my all-time favourite bar, 1105.

Lidkoeb bikeAfter a long day of shopping, I was ready for a night out in my favourite city, tasting all of the best cocktails!

My friend and I had a clear plan in mind. We started the night at Lidkoeb in Vesterbro – we’d been there two years ago, but just hadn’t had the chance to go back.

I love Lidkoeb as it’s such a cosy bar – it’s the kind of place where you intend to stay for one drink, but it’s so relaxing and laid back that you end up spending the whole night there.

LidkoebAfter surveying the menu for a good few minutes, I went for a Mælkeskæg: cachaça with sea buckthorn syrup, condensed milk, served with a Nordic twist of Dill Akvavit. My friend opted for the Østersø Cola: Pimms, Vodka and liquorice!

I could easily have spent the rest of the evening there sampling the range of cocktails, but our plan was to head into Nørrebro and try Gilt. Neither of us had been there before, and having read the reviews, I got the impression that it was the original cocktail bar of Copenhagen. So needless to say, I was quite excited about trying it out!

The half an hour walk from Lidkoeb (during which time I mentally picked out my future apartment in Copenhagen), turned out to be pointless as it was so packed, we couldn’t get in! It was a shame, as I’d even decided which drink to have – The Blues: gin, apple juice, blueberries and cinnamon.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be. There was only one thing for it: 1105.

1105 has to be my all-time favourite bar in the world. I just love it. The atmosphere is sophisticated yet relaxed, and the drinks are amazing. They have a huge cocktail list but what I really fancied was a No.4 – the barman was very nice and made it for me even though it wasn’t on the menu.

1105Gin, lime juice, honey, cardamom and black pepper, it’s like perfection in a glass. In fact, it was so good, I had two!

It was a flying weekend visit to Copenhagen, but it was definitely worth it for the cocktails I drank. Every time I go back, I always vow to try somewhere new, but we always end up at our old favourite bars. Well, there’s always next time…!
