Den hvide Greve

A white negroni with a Nordic twist

Den Hvide Greve (English: The white count) from Liedkoeb is a bitter blend for the experienced cocktail enthusiast. This is a complex and heavy cocktail based on amber distilled aquavit. It is best described as a Nordic twist on a white negroni.

Den Hvide Greve. An aquavit white negroni from Lidkoeb - on of the best cocktail bars in Copenhagen3,5cl Aalborg Nordguld Akvavit*
2.5cl Gran Classico bitter
3cl Cocchi Americano white vermouth

Stirred with ice and strained over cubed ice. Garnished with a lemon twist and lemon thyme.

Gran Classico substitutes Campari for bitterness and a generous pour of Cocchi Americano offers the clear drapes for this “white count”.

*Aalborg Nordguld akvavit is distilled with carraway, dill and amber and matured in sherry casks. The amber distillate which is unique to this aquavit adds notes of pine, resin, and peppermint – aromas that have been encapsulated in amber for millions of years. In Scandinavia amber is plentiful on the long stretches of coastline and is called “nordic gold”, hence the name “nordguld”. This is a smooth aquavit with an edge.

I believe that true mastery eventually leads to original creation given the right conditions. I love creative cocktails that push the limits of flavor pairing. But I can't deny I have a personal preference for whisky and love everything that is clear and stirred.
