K-bar is recognized by many as the first modern cocktail bar in Copenhagen. Located in the old centre of Copenhagen, the intimate atmosphere, high class cocktails and professional staff makes for a great experience while the owner Kirsten Holm oversees every detail with a strict and loving attitude.

The interior is classic but with a distinctive minimalist modern twist of clear lines in black, white and steel. A Japanese inspired low bar desk makes you feel like you’ve been invited into the bartender’s kitchen to take part in the creative unfolding that takes place behind the bar. There are no wests or bowties behind the bar – the staff express their own personal style. You can be sure that they’ll do their outmost to make you feel welcome. For Kirsten it’s of outmost importance that guests experience good service. Everyone on staff has to greet people as they arrive and serve guests at the tables. Table service and eye contact are indispensable building blocks of a true K-bar experience.

Kirsten expects a lot from her staff but she expects a lot from her guests as well. The total experience depends on the atmosphere of the place and the guests take a big part in creating that atmosphere – so Kristen considers them to be co-responsible and will let them know if she feels like they are acting out.

This is all important because it influences how you experience the cocktails that are served. A good cocktail depends on the environment it’s served in: atmosphere and service are a crucial part of a good cocktail experience.

The cocktails themselves are created in frequent “jam sessions” among the staff and are designed to have a dramatic effect and powerful impact. K-bar is about character not subtlety. It was the first and it’s here to stay.
