Learn to love rotten fish from the Baltic Sea
This is a cocktail you’ve got to try! In the Nordic section of Lidkoeb‘s menu you’ll find the “Østersø Cola” and like most other Lidkoeb cocktails it’s name is quite hard on non-native tongues. It looks like an all-american coke, but the resemblance stops there. Tastewise it’s much closer to “Østersøen” – the Baltic Sea… Or to be more precise Holme-Olstrup in Southern Zealand where the Danish candy brand BonBon was founded. In the 90’s their controversially named candy was a big succes, “Rotten Fish” was one of them and the Østersø Cola tastes just like them! That is without a doubt a compliment, as most Danes will remember Rotten Fish as some of their favorite sweets while growing up. Others might associate it more with the equally popular Kung Fu ice pop… In any case this cocktail lives up to Lidkoeb’s ambition of challenging people’s taste preferences and gently push them a little beyond their comfort zone.
3 cl Pimms
3 cl vodka
3 cl lemon juice
2 cl Johan Bülow liquorice syrup (watered down with some sugar syrup)
1 cl peach liqueur
Shake with ice and serve over rocks in a rocks glass. Garnish with a wedge of lemon.
You’ll find the “Rotten Fish” in the “Lossepladsen” candy mix in any super market. Try them and pay Lidkoeb a visit to have a go at the Østersø Cola with the taste fresh in memory. Danes will be happy to find their fond childhood memories combined with vodka and Pimms and Copenhagen visitors will know what Danish childhood tastes like.
Cheers to a Scandinavian coke!
