Complicated but approachable
At Balderdash ingenious and creative flavor compositions have a way of finding their way into your glass.
Each cocktail has been through an adventurous and very ambitious journey before ending on the menu. Blonde ambition is no exception.
This is one of the very first drinks that became a stable in the menu, after the 4th menu it’s been on the menu ever since. It’s a hybrid between a martini and a sour. – Complicated, fragrant but approachable. – Geoffrey Canilao
If you ever find yourself in the dilemma of choosing between a martini and a sour this hybrid solves It for you.
Blond ambition is an ambitious and complicated cocktail with a lot of taste notes to explore, yet it’s easy to drink.
3 parts gin
1 part dry vermouth
1 part elderflower liqueur
1 part lemon
1 part sugar
3 dashes grapefruit bitters
3 dashes cardamom bitters
The ingredients are ”thrown”* with rock ice, served with a large ice in a coupe glass and finished off with bergamot perfume**
The spicy and peppery cardamom gives a warm embrace to the zesty kick of the grapefruit bitter, while also opening up the botanical flavors of the gin and the dry vermouth. The elderflower brings a subtle floral sweetness, without tipping it to the sweet side.
The finish is an inviting and refined scent of the bergamot – like the fragrant perfume on a complicated, but approachable, blonde girl.
*Throwing a cocktail refers to a specific method of chilling and mixing a drink that’s somewhere between “rolling” and “shaking”. It’s designed to aerate a drink without diluting it too much. You throw a cocktail by pouring the ingredients from one vessel to another, one held above the other 4-5 times.
** The bergamot perfume consists of concentrated bergamot oil and neutral alcohol redistilled though a rotovap.
